Juniors

Team Cherwell Junior Section is thriving.

We race in the BFT South Central Series which can see us travelling to Southampton, Portsmouth and Eaton Dorney near Windsor. All our coaches are voluntary and have a wide knowledge of triathlon who will help you train and prepare you for racing.

"The Team Cherwell coaches aim to grow and develop Juniors in-line with their own personal objectives and abilities. What’s most important is that they maximise their enjoyment of the sport and I take great pride in watching our Juniors train and race together collectively helping each other improve."

We have some very experienced triathletes amongst our junior coaching team.

Richard Hughes
Level 2 BTF Coach
I’ve been involved in Tri for 20 yrs. Transferring from playing Rugby at various levels. After entering my 1st race in Banbury the sport enticed me in and I've now competed at all distances including multiple finishes at long distance and even a 4 day adventure challenge. Team Cherwell offers a great club spirit and it’s a pleasure coaching children from their first ever race to racing for GB, at all distances. I'm always available to help athletes with their long term development. Get in touch

Level 1 BTF Coach
I have always enjoyed running, swimming and cycling and became a member of Team Cherwell in 2012 setting myself the challenge of doing all three together. I started coaching the juniors in 2016 and get a great deal of satisfaction in helping them to develop and improve, they’ve even taught me a thing or two with their enthusiasm for the sport. I regularly compete in Triathlons preferring the 70.3 or middle distance however in 2017 I am due to take part in my first long course, Ironman event.
Geoff Ingram
Level 1 BTF Coach
After competing in Decathlon and the 400m hurdles where I represented Wales and went on to become the twice GB Masters Decathlon Champion, in 2011, I caught the 'triathlon bug' and completed Ironman Wales in my first year of triathlon. I've since completed two more and represented GB in my AG at two European Sprint Champs...so far! I'm a qualified PT and massage therapist and if I can help an athlete fall in love with triathlon and keeping fit generally then 'job done!'
Matt Ryder
Level 1 BTF Coach
I started out in Triathlon in 2004 training and racing with Team MK then moved to Banbury and joined Team Cherwell in 2005. I’ve competed in Sprint, Olympic Distance and Ironman 70.3 races over the years. I’m now a BTF qualified Level 1 Coach with a keen interest in coaching running, swimming and open water swim skills.
James Allen
Training for Level 1 BTF Coach
I've been helping out at Team Cherwell track sessions for about a year now.  My eldest daughter Holly used to belong to the club and my youngest Niamh started at the club last year and I thought why not help out while I'm there! I enjoy getting dirty on my mountain bike which has taken me to Scotland, Wales and Gran Canaria.  I also like doing my own bike maintenance which helps with the kids bikes. I hope to do my Level 1 BTF coach course this year.
Jolene Stuchfield
Training for Level 1 BTF Coach
Since competing in my first triathlon, I have developed a love for taking part in triathlons. Now with my eldest daughter training with Team Cherwell, I am very excited to be involved with coaching the juniors. I hope with introducing young triathletes to the sport, I can pass on the enjoyment of taking part, the desire to challenge oneself and simply to have fun being part of a team.
